Andhra Hospitals on Sunday (March 16) launched ‘Vijayawada Mothers’ Milk Bank Project’ with funds provided by the Rotary International organisation.
The Rotary Club of Vijayawada, in collaboration with Andhra Hospitals, launched the the project, with an outlay of over ₹37 lakh, to provide breast milk to newborns unable to receive it owing to various reasons. The project’s primary goal is to collect and distribute donated breast milk to such newborns. Around 7,200 newborns are expected to benefit from this service annually.
Speaking on the occasion, Namrata Shirodkar, actor and wife of Telugu actor Mahesh Babu, underlined the importance of breast milk, as it is the best nourishment for infants. She pointed out that the Mothers’ Milk Bank project would be a blessing to infants born prematurely, with low birth weight or whose mothers did not have sufficient milk.
She complimented Andhra Hospitals for their efforts to serve children through this initiative, in collaboration with the Rotary Club.
Ms. Namrata also congratulated the Mahesh Babu Foundation, the management of Andhra Hospitals and the paediatric and cardiac team for successfully performing over 4,500 heart surgeries and interventions on children in the past 10 years. Andhra Hospitals Managing Director P.V. Ramana Murthy was present.
