The Cyber Crime Police on Wednesday (July 3, 2025) arrested a youth hailing from Konaseema district on the charge of blackmailing a woman by threatening to post nude photos of her daughter on social media.
According to a release issued by the city police, the elderly woman had recently received several nude photos of her daughter from an unknown phone number.
The sender demanded money and threatened to make the images viral on social media. The woman lodged a police complaint.
Investigation revealed that the accused had befriended the girl on social media when she was pursuing her Intermediate studies. The youth later convinced her to make a nude video call, which he recorded secretly. He then used the footage to threaten her mother and demand money. Acting on a tip-off, the police arrested the youth.
The police have urged the people, especially the youth, not to accept friend requests or engage in conversations with strangers on social media platforms.
