White Desert, known for its high-end expeditions in Antarctica, is expanding beyond polar terrain for the first time with a new curated series of journeys across South America. Launching in September 2025, the 12-day experience — the first under the new ‘Dr. Jones Collection’ — spans from northern Peru to the glaciers of Patagonia.
Guests will travel aboard a restored 1940s-style Dakota aircraft, capable of landing on remote and unconventional airstrips. The aircraft, central to the journey’s cinematic appeal, enables seamless access to locations far from standard tourist routes. The itinerary was designed to highlight unfrequented landscapes and cultural experiences, while retaining White Desert’s signature blend of adventure and comfort.
The journey begins in Peru’s Amazonas region, where travellers will explore cloud forests near the towering Gocta Falls and search for ancient sarcophagi in Chachapoyas. A stop at the company’s newly established Dune Camp in Paracas offers desert-side accommodation near an oasis, with coastal diving opportunities for prized fan shells.
Further south, the itinerary includes a stargazing segment in Chile’s Atacama Desert and hikes to volcanic hot springs via a remote canyon. In the concluding leg, guests arrive in Patagonia to ride alongside gauchos beneath the peaks of Torres del Paine, where glaciers tumble into the sea.
“Just as we have done in Antarctica, I wanted to create a journey that was as adventurous as it was luxurious — and in Dr. Jones, we have found the perfect balance,” said White Desert Founder Patrick Woodhead. “Even on the reconnaissance for the journey, we visited landscapes that I never knew existed. They were just so surreal.”
Each segment of the trip will be led by White Desert guides, with experienced crew and pilots ensuring continuity of safety and service throughout. The launch signals a broader intention from the company to offer immersive, multi-terrain expeditions that remain far removed from conventional routes.
