KOLKATA
A BJP worker, Sheikh Bakibulla, was found dead under mysterious circumstances at his home in Goghat in Hooghly district on Saturday, sparking political tensions in the area.
The BJP has alleged that the death was not a suicide but a “political murder”. The police have sent the body for a post-mortem and initiated a probe.
“In this specific case at Goghat police station, an FIR has been lodged against unknown persons under Section 103(1) of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (murder),” a high-ranking official of the West Bengal police told The Hindu.
Sheikh Abdullah, father of the deceased, said his son had earlier been associated with the Communist Party of India (Marxist). “He was assaulted multiple times in the past,” he said.
