Waltair Division holds meet with freight stakeholders


A meeting was convened by the Waltair Division of East Coast Railway (ECoR) with key freight customers and stakeholders here on Wednesday (July 30).

The meeting, chaired by Divisional Railway Manager Lalit Bohra, aimed to explore strategies for enhancing freight traffic, with a particular focus on inputs for improvement in the logistics and transportation.

Senior Divisional Operations Manager Tanmay Mukhopadhyay, Senior Divisional Commercial Manager K. Saandeep and other departmental officers were present in the meeting.

The meeting facilitated a collaborative dialogue in identifying new revenue streams, optimising mutual support and boosting coordination for a healthy freight ecosystem. Emphasis was placed on effective decision-making, cost-saving measures and improved rake management.

Mr. Bohra highlighted the steps being taken, such as the provisioning of additional rakes for transport, acceleration of infrastructure facilities and operational improvements at railway sidings. He held elaborate discussions on enhancing coordination, reducing the constraints, time management and effective communication system.

Waltair Division reported a 12.25% increase in freight transportation during the first quarter of the current financial year compared to the previous year.

Representatives from prominent organisations, including Vizag Seaport, Gangavaram Port, SAIL, Vedanta, ITL, Bothra, HIQ Service, KR & Sons, Bhushan Power, Utkal Alumina, NALCO, CONCOR, Coromandel Fertilizers, India Phosphate Ltd. and RCI, participated.
