A video of two transgenders performing pooja in a police station in Salem city went viral in social media on Saturday.
The video shows the transgender persons performing pooja inside the Alagapuram police station on Friday around 8.30 p.m. People, who came to lodge complaints with the police, recorded it, and uploaded it to social media on Saturday. Following this, Salem City Police Commissioner Praveen Kumar Abhinapu ordered an inquiry into the incident.
Police officials attached to Alagapuram police station, on condition of anonymity, said the station had not been cleaned for the past few months. On Friday, the station was cleaned and the police performed a pooja in the station. At that time, the two transgender persons, who came to the station, wished to perform the pooja and the police allowed them, the officials added.
