A Village Administrative Officer (VAO) at Palacode taluk office was arrested on graft charges by the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption sleuths.
Prabhu, a VAO at Marandahalli town, was caught red-handed while taking bribe from the complainant, Ganesan of Marandahalli. He had applied for a name change in the patta. However, Prabhu had demanded ₹5,000 for the name change. According to sources, Ganesan had paid ₹3,000, but Prabhu insisted on collecting the full amount. Following this, Ganesan lodged a complaint with DVAC. Ganesan was asked to handover ₹2,000 to Prabhu at the taluk office. He was caught while accepting the cash. He was arrested.
Prabhu, according to sources, was suspended 6 months ago for having consumed alcohol during office hours. He was reinstated only recently.
