Workers of Tangedco, during a maintenance shutdown last week in Velachery, pruned avenue trees on several streets. The trees in Ram Nagar, Sarathy Nagar, Annai Indira Nagar, Tansi Nagar, and Baby Nagar, which were either crossing overhead power lines or obstructing transformers, were completely pruned. While pruning, the electricity workers dumped the tree debris along the road margins, so that conservancy workers from the Chennai Corporation could remove it.
However, the debris has not been removed for over a week, causing severe inconvenience to both pedestrians and motorists.
Although conservancy workers have been cleaning the streets daily, when asked why the tree debris remains uncleared, they explained that it requires a larger vehicle. Since most of the interior streets are less than 20 feet wide, and much of the space has been taken up by stormwater drains/footpaths, the smooth flow of traffic has been affected.
We urge the local officials of the Chennai Corporation to take immediate steps to remove the tree debris.

Chennai Corporation responds
A senior official of the Adyar zone of the Chennai Corporation said the complaint has been brought to the notice of senior officials, and has been forwarded to the private conservancy contractor. The tree debris will be removed over the next week, the official said.
Unauthorised parking of vehicles on GST Road
The GST Road near Meenambakkam is known for heavy traffic due to the presence of the Chennai Airport. As motorists navigate past the airport towards Pallavaram, they face severe inconvenience caused by vehicles parked along the margins of GST Road.
A large number of visitors to the cinema multiplex and the restaurant located opposite Chennai Airport park their vehicles on the road instead of using the designated parking facilities. This leads to traffic bottlenecks. In particular, the unauthorised parking of vehicles at night poses a serious risk to road users due to poor street lighting.
Despite several complaints, the Traffic Police under the Tambaram Police Commissionerate have turned a blind eye to this ongoing nuisance.
