Metropolitan Sessions Judge-cum-Special Judge for NDPS Cases M. Venkataraman on Monday convicted two individuals in separate narcotics cases under Section 20(b)(ii)(C) of the NDPS Act, 1985, after the prosecution proved their guilt beyond reasonable doubt.
In the first case, Nella Tejamurthy (45), a van driver from S. Rayavaram village of Anakapalli district, was sentenced to 14 years of Rigorous Imprisonment and fined ₹1.4 lakh for transporting 200 kg of ganja in a van. He was apprehended on February 3, 2019, near Ghar Dhaba close to the BPCL petrol bunk in Yelamanchili during a police patrol. The case was investigated by SI G. Narayana Rao.
In a separate case, Devara Siva (35) of Golugonda mandal was convicted for possessing 96 kg of ganja. He was arrested on February 2, 2017, while standing by the roadside at Batchhinto village of Koyyuru mandal. The court sentenced him to 12 years of Rigorous Imprisonment and imposed a fine of ₹1.2 lakh. In both the cases, a six-month simple imprisonment will be imposed if fines are not paid.
