Pointing out that Visakhapatnam should be developed as a tourism destination of global standard, Tourism Special Chief Secretary Ajay Jain has asked the officials to design awareness campaigns to promote various segments such as adventure, water sports and cruise tourism facilities in the city.
Mr. Jain reviewed the tourism projects undertaken in Visakhapatnam and Vizianagaram at the Collectorate here on Wednesday.
Highlighting the potential of Visakhapatnam to host big national and international events, Mr. Jain said that the city should have 10,000 star-rated hotel rooms.
Mr. Jain asked the officials to expedite the land acquisition process for the construction of Oberoi Hotel proposed in Bhogapuram of Vizianagaram district and My Fairs Hotel at Bheemunipatnam in Visakhapatnam.
The officials were instructed to ensure that the allotted land was handed over to the respective companies within the time frame. He also asked the officials to create basic infrastructures such as roads, electricity, and supply drinking water through pipelines from the Gosthani River for these hotels.
He said that the district revenue officials should extend all support to the hotel companies.
Later, Mr. Jain held discussions on the tourism projects to be undertaken in Visakhapatnam district.
He instructed the officials to design projects that would attract tourists in innovative ways. He said that signboards and hoardings should be put up in the city to inform tourists about local destinations.
District Collector M.N. Harendhira Prasad briefed about the projects proposed in RK Beach, Rushikonda, Madhurawada, Bheemunipatnam, Kapuluppada, Dabbanda, Yendada, Yarada, and other locations.
