Three including man, son die in accidents in Coimbatore


Three persons, including a father-son duo died in two separate accidents reported in Coimbatore on Friday. In the first accident, a 36-year-old man from Andhra Pradesh and his son were run over by a truck near Saravanampatti.

The deceased have been identified as Rajesh, 36, a resident of a gated community on Thudiyalur road near Saravanampatti, who had been working in an IT firm at Keeranatham, and his nine-year-old son R. Vinith.

The police said the accident took place around 5 a.m. when they were heading to Kalapatti on a two-wheeler for the boy to attend skating class.

As Rajesh was entering Kalapatti road from Coimbatore – Sathyamangalam Road, the driver of a truck that came from behind tried to overtake the two-wheeler at the turn. The truck hit the two-wheeler and the duo was run over. They were dragged for about 20 feet before the truck came to a halt.

The police rushed to the spot and shifted the deceased to the Government Medical College and ESI Hospital. They secured the driver of the truck R. Manoharan, 52, of Tiruppur.

In another accident, R. Karthikeyan, 47, a resident of Vellakinar housing unit, died in an accident on the flyover at Kavundampalayam. The police said the accident took place around 7 a.m. when Karthikeyan was heading to Coimbatore. According to the police, he lost control of the two-wheeler after the staff bus of a private firm, which was plying on the same direction, brushed against his vehicle. The two-wheeler hit the median and he died on the spot.

The police have launched an investigation.
