Even as summer vacation has got over and all schools were reopened a fortnight ago in Tamil Nadu, Southern Railway has introduced “summer special” and “weekend special” trains to be operated in June.
Interestingly, these trains would touch Madurai on June 22, when the Muruga Bhaktargalin Aanmeega Maanadu, organised by Hindu Munnani, is scheduled in Madurai.
Train No. 06089 Chennai Egmore – Tirunelveli Superfast special would leave Chennai Egmore at 9.55 p.m. on June 21 (Saturday) and reach Tirunelveli at 8.45 a.m. the next day.
In the return direction, Train No. 06090 Tirunelveli – Chennai Egmore Superfast special would leave Tirunelveli at 9.40 p.m. on June 22 (Sunday) and reach Chennai Egmore at 8.15 a.m. the next day.
According to a statement from Madurai Railway Division, the special train is being operated to clear the extra rush during the “weekend”.
A railway official said surprisingly, the Southern Railway was using more number of sleeper class coaches — 17 coaches — than the number of — only four — AC coaches.
A statement from the Southern Railway said special biweekly trains would be operated between Villupuram and Rameswaram to clear extra rush during “summer season”.
Train No. 06109 Villupuram – Rameswaram superfast special would leave Villupuram at 4.15 a.m. on June 21, 22, 28 and 29 (Saturdays and Sundays) and reach Rameswaram at 11.40 a.m. the same day.
In return direction, Train No. 06110 Rameswaram – Villupuram superfast special would leave Rameswaram at 2.35 p.m. on June 21, 22, 28 and 29 (Saturdays and Sundays) and reach Villupuram at 10.35 p.m. the same day.
The trains would have one AC chair car coaches, 11 chair car coaches, two general second class coaches and two second class (differently-abled-friendly) coaches.
The Southern Railway also announced additional stoppages for these trains at Pennadam, Ariyalur and Paramakudi railway stations along with stoppages earlier announced at Vriddhachalam, Srirangam, Tiruchi, Dindigul, Madurai, Manamadurai and Ramanathapuram.
Meanwhile, the Southern Railway cancelled track maintenance work earlier announced for June 21 and 28.
Consequently, Train Number (16849/16850) Tiruchi-Rameswaram-Tiruchi trains would be run as usual as against the partial cancellation between Manamadurai and Rameswaram announced earlier.
