Sivakasi fireworks factory blast: 6 dead, rescue ongoing

Six workers have been killed in a fire accident at Gokhales Fireworks unit at Chinnakamanpatti village near Sivakasi in Virudhunagar district on Tuesday (July 1, 2025). Five other workers were injured, of whom the condition of three is said to be critical.
All the injured have been admitted to the Government Hospital in Sivakasi.

According to police, an explosion was heard around 8.45 a.m. at the unit, licensed by Petroleum and Explosives Safety Organisation (PESO), located on Sivakasi-Sattur road. Initial reports suggest that friction that occurred while handling chemicals during the making of aerial fireworks goods could have led to the accident.
Firemen from Sivakasi fire and rescue services station who rushed to the spot brought the fire under control immediately.
Eight working sheds were razed to ground in the impact of the blast. Six bodies were recovered from the accident site. Identification of the deceased is underway.
Among the injured, R. Alaguraja (28) of Servaikaranpatti, R. Ramamoorthi (55) and Lingasamy (45) of O. Kovilpatti, are said to have sustained grievous burn injuries.
Virudhunagar district Superintendent of Police D. Kannan has rushed to the spot.
