Six arrested with over 6 kg of ganja in Coimbatore


The police arrested six persons for possessing a total of 6.1 kg of ganja, in two separate incidents in Coimbatore on Wednesday (June 18, 2025).

The Kuniyamuthur police carried out a surprise check in an open area near a private college at Sugunapuram East around 10 a.m. on Wednesday and found four men with the contraband. The police arrested K. Raja, 22, of Kudavasal at Thiruvarur, S. Mirutyunjayarana, 27, of Kulutajore village in Baudh district in Odisha, John Peter, 30, of Udayampalayam in Coimbatore and M. Muthu, 26, of Kalaignar Nagar at Ganesapuram near Podanur in the city.

The police seized 5.9 kg of ganja, cash to the tune of ₹36,000, two two-wheelers and four mobile phones from them. They were produced before the Seventh Judicial Magistrate Court and the magistrate sent them to judicial remand, the police said.

In another incident, the Prohibition Enforcement Wing of the police arrested G. Pranas, 22, of Cheran Nagar G.N. Mills and Sai Prasanth, 25, of Collector Sivakumar Street at K.K. Pudur near Saibaba Colony in the city with 200 grams of ganja.

A team headed by sub-inspector Jecis Udhayaraj arrested the duo with 100 grams of local ganja and 100 grams of high-potent cannabis variety OG kush from K. Vadamadurai around 10.30 a.m. A car, a motorcycle, an electronic weighing machine, ₹31,500 in cash and plastic ziplock pouches were also seized from them. The two were produced before the First Judicial Magistrate Court and were remanded in judicial custody.
