‘Several government employees have encroached on GCC land’

Chennai Corporation Council on Monday said that several government employees have encroached on GCC land in the city.

According to a resolution passed by the Chennai Corporation Council on Monday, the civic body will issue NoC for free house site patta for encroachments by residents in GCC lands. According to inspection by revenue authorities in Tondiarpet, 381 residents who have encroached on 92862 sq ft of GCC land in the area include government employees, private employees and wage labourers. Of the 381 residents who have been identified by revenue authorities in the area, 272 are reportedly eligible for free house site patta. The government employees who are not eligible for free house site patta are likely to get patta on payment of the guideline value of the land, officials said.

As some of the encroached lands are located in the vicinity of railway stations, the GCC council issued NoC for the issuance of patta. Revenue authorities have also identified encroachment in areas such as Mugalivakkam and Jalladianpet. Many of the residents in the GCC lands have constructed houses with ground floor plus two floors.
