The School Education Department has warned of strict action including cancelling of licence against private schools charging excess fees and running non-approved classes.
“We have been getting complaints regarding the excess charging of fees in various private schools. This is a serious issue,” said a senior official in the department. In this regard, the department had asked a private school in Chennai recently to send a letter regarding a complaint of charging an additional fee of Rs 57,000 and admission fee of Rs 10,000 along with the tuition fee of Rs 32,670.
“The schools must follow the fees fixed by the fee committee and cannot charge above. Further, schools must run classes that have received approval from the department,” said the official. The public can register complaints regarding excess fees with the Directorate of Private Schools.
