Succession is nothing new in politics, as it is common for the heirs to ascend the throne when the veterans make way. Surprisingly, the process has begun in SPSR Nellore district, in Andhra Pradesh, when there is no political churning and even when the elections are nowhere around the corner.
The district is known for the Anam and Nallapureddy families that have several decades of politically seasoned leaders. Minister Anam Ramanarayana Reddy’s father Anam Venkata Reddy and former YSRCP MLA from Kovur Nallapureddy Prasanna Kumar Reddy’s father Nallapureddy Srinivasulu Reddy also served as powerful Cabinet Ministers in the past.

Even today, Member of Parliament Vemireddy Prabhakar Reddy’s spouse Vemireddy Prashanti Reddy is Kovur MLA. In such a scenario, the new generation leaders are leaving no stone unturned to carry on the political legacy. Interestingly, the trend is seen more in the ruling Telugu Desam Party (TDP).
Take for instance the case of the party’s politburo member Somireddy Chandramohan Reddy, who represents the Sarvepalli constituency. The MLA’s son and the party’s youth leader Somireddy Rajagopal Reddy is already making his presence felt across the constituency along with his wife Somireddy Shruthi Reddy, trying to strike a chord with the public.
On Saturday (June 21, 2025), the duo participated in a developmental work in the ST Colony of Peduru village in Thotapalli Gudur mandal. Both the young leaders, who appear politically suave and ambitious, gave an assurance to the public to stay in their midst and fulfill the promises made to the voters.

Similarly, Minister for Municipal Administration and Urban Development Ponguru Narayana’s daughter P. Sharani is also keen on meeting the people and supervising developmental works in her father’s Nellore City constituency.
Mr. Narayana’s pet project of modernising V.R. High School, where he had studied and even worked as a teacher in the past, is constantly monitored by his daughter.

On his part, Kotamreddy Sridhar Reddy, the three-time MLA of Nellore Rural constituency, has already started promoting his younger brother Giridhar Reddy as his successor to the seat. Within six months of the alliance government in power, the younger Kotamreddy started roaming in the constituency to get acquainted with the problems faced by the public and discussing probable solutions with his brother.
From the Opposition side, a young name that has hogged the limelight is Kakani Poojitha, daughter of former Minister Kakani Govardhan Reddy, who is currently facing charges of corruption and misuse of power during the previous regime. Ms. Poojitha has come in the midst of the public for the first time to raise voice on her father’s behalf, besides instilling confidence in the party cadre. The district is expected to get young and fresh blood infused ahead of the next general elections.
