Police stations in Mangaluru have become Congress stations, says R. Ashok

Leader of Opposition in the Legislative Assembly R. Ashok alleged here on Monday that police stations in Mangaluru have become “Congress stations.”

Addressing presspersons, Mr. Ashok, a former Home Minister, alleged that police officials are dancing to the tunes of the Congress.

Referring to the recent transfer of police chiefs in Dakshina Kannada, he alleged that the State government wanted officials who would “dance” to the diktat of the ruling party.

Referring to the police allegedly visiting the houses of some Sangh Parivar leaders and activists in Dakshina Kannada, he said that law won’t permit police to enter people’s houses during the night.

Welcoming the Union government ordering a National Investigation Agency (NIA) probe into the murder of Suhas Shetty, a Hindutva activist who faced murder charges, Mr. Ashok said that it was needed as there was suspicions of foreign funding and the involvement of anti-national elements in the murder.

Asked why the BJP was not pressing for a NIA probe into the murder of Abdul Rahiman near Bantwal recently, Mr. Ashok said that the party was not against it. It was up to the State government to decide, he said, adding that communal touch should not be given to every murder including the one which took place near Bantwal on May 27.

He said that the BJP leaders who visited Mangaluru on Monday held a meeting with nearly 1,500 party workers. The leaders promised them that the party will stand by them when the police are threatening them in the name of maintaining law and order.
