The city police conducted a ‘Naka Bandhi’ across all major junctions in the city from 9 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Saturday night. The police said the motto of ‘Naka Bandhi’ was to curb illegal transportation, thorough inspection of every vehicle, prevent smuggling of ganja and other narcotic substances, drunk driving, rash driving, overloading, verification of vehicle documents and controlling other unlawful activities.
Police teams deployed at 48 major junctions conducted 115 two-wheeler and four-wheeler checks. As part of the drive, 60 two-wheeler riders were fined for not wearing helmets and 16 vehicles were found with improper number plates. Three cases of triple riding were registered, and 12 cases involved using mobile phones while driving. Another 19 cases were registered for various violations under the Motor Vehicle Act.
