No road, no school: Tribal children travel by boat to attend classes

The tribal children of Solu Bongu hamlet in Pinakota panchayat of Anantagiri mandal in ASR district are being forced to travel by boat to attend school.

The hamlet home to 76 residents lack both a road and an Anganwadi centre. A total of 12 children study at the Tamarabba MPP Elementary School in Devarapalli mandal in Anakapalli district. With schools reopening on Thursday, parents ferried their children in boats on the Raiwada waters, which flows alongside their village to Tamarabba village and then trekked about 1 km through the forest to reach the school.

Girijana Sangham leaders N. Raja Rao sought the establishment of a school in the village and the construction of a 3-km road from Solu Bongu to Veerabhadrapeta to ensure safe accessibility to education.
