Two additional Mahalir Vidiyal Payanam buses for free travel for women and four buses on mofussil routes were launched in the city on Saturday by the Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation, Kumbakonam.
Minister for School Education Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi flagged off five new buses. G. Divya, Deputy Mayor, and TNSTC officials were present at a ceremony held at the Chathiram Bus Stand in the city.
According to TNSTC sources, the Tiruchi region has been allotted 173 new buses and they were being gradually inducted into the fleet. One of the two Mahalir Vidiyal Payanam buses would ply on the Central Bus Stand-Thuvakudi route. The mofusil buses would run on Tiruchi-Viralimalai-Thuvarankuchi-Madurai; Tiruchi-Dindigul-Theni-Cumbum and Manapparai-Tiruchi-Karur-Tiruppur routes.
Later, Mr. Mahesh flagged off another Mahalir Vidiyal Payanam bus on the Ponmalaiapatti-Kottapattu-Indira Nagar-Central Bus Stand-Chathiram Bus Stand route at an event held at Ponmalaipatti.
