Moderate to heavy rains continued in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts on June 15, 2025 even as a portion of Kettikkal gudda (a hillock) at Kettikal, on the National Highway-169 (Mangaluru-Moodbidri-Karkala), on the outskirts of Mangaluru, slipped on the night of June 14, 2025. However, it did not affect traffic movement on the Highway.
Mangaluru Project Office of the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) said in a statement that “the landslip resulted in the accumulation of displaced soil on one side of the Highway. The NHAI has mobilised its team to the site and the soil is currently being removed. Proper safety measures have been taken and traffic has been diverted to ensure smooth movement at the location. No serious damage was caused by the slide and the prompt response helped manage the situation effectively.”
India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued red alert (extremely heavy rainfall above 204.5 mm) to the coastal Karnataka till 8.30 a.m. on June 16, 2025.
Another landslip between Jokatte and Padil sections
Meanwhile, another landslip occurred between Jokatte and Padil sections of the railway line after the first one which took place at about 5 p.m. on June 14 was cleared during Saturday night and trains resumed their journey.
A railway official said that owing to the second landslip trains are being operated on the single line. Hence, all trains are running slowly.
