The II Additional District Judge here on Tuesday convicted and sentenced a 32-year-old man to undergo life imprisonment for murdering a 45-year-old man over a family dispute in Jeeyapuram police station limits in the district in March 2020.
The name of the deceased was given as M. Selvaraj, 45, and that of the accused sentenced to life imprisonment as N. Suresh, 32.
A police press release on Tuesday said Suresh along with a few others attacked Selvaraj and two others, including a woman, with a knife and aruval causing injuries to them. Selvaraj died on the way to the hospital. The Jeeyapuram police registered a case under various sections including 302 IPC (murder) acting on a complaint from Selvaraj’s son Maheswaran.
The trial was held at the II Additional District Court here. The II Additional District Judge sentenced Suresh to undergo life imprisonment, while imposing a fine of ₹20,000 on another accused N. Kumaresan. The remaining four accused were acquitted, the release added.
