The Kalamassery police on Tuesday arrested a man on charge of beating up his 11-year-old son and fracturing his left palm reportedly for misplacing his geometry box.
The arrested is Sivakumar, who is originally from Villupuram in Tamil Nadu but residing for rent in Thrikkakara North. He was produced in court and remanded in judicial custody.
The alleged incident took place on Saturday around 8.30 p.m. The first information report (FIR) was registered on Monday.
According to the FIR, the accused beat up the boy after he told him that he had lost his geometry box. He allegedly beat the boy on his leg and left palm using a relatively large tree branch. He also reportedly dragged the boy out and submerged his head in a bucket full of water outside the house.
The accused was booked under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita Sections 115(2) (voluntarily causing hurt) and 118 (1) (voluntarily causing grievous hurt by dangerous weapons) and the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act Section 75 (prevention of cruelty to children).
