Labourer dies as soil collapses at an under-construction site in Mumbai, three injured

Two labourers, working at an under-construction site, got trapped when the loose soil collapsed due to heavy rains in Andheri East in Mumbai on Monday (June 16, 2025).

According to Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) officials, the workers got stuck under the groud surface and the loose soil around them collapsed due to heavy rains. The incident was reported on Monday around 7.43pm at Kadamwadi, behind Saileela Business Park, Andheri-Kurla Road, Andheri East.

The rescue operation which was undertaken by the BMC, in coordination with, police and emergency healthworkers, went on past 11 p.m.

According to officials, around 11.45pm, two labourers who were trapped, were rescued and taken to Cooper Hospital. But one of them was “brought dead”, according an assistant medical officer of the hospital.

House collapses at Bandhra East

In a separate incident, a house collapsed on Monday night (June 16) at Indira Krupa Housing society, Near Tarina School, Bandra East due to heavy rains. The incident was reported around 11.34p.m.

According to BMC officials, two women were injured when the wall of an under-construction building collapsed at an adjacent room in the chawl.

BMC’s MFB, police, 108 ambulance and BMC’s Ward staff were at the rescue site. They were taken to Gurunanak Hospital. While the condition of one Pranita Yewle (28) is stable, Komal Yewle, aged around 25 years, is said to be critical.

Authorities are investigating further and more details are awaited.
