KIMS principal appointed as Vice-Chancellor of RGUHS

Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot has appointed Bhagavan B.C., Principal of Kempegowda Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS), Bengaluru, as the Vice-Chancellor (V-C) of Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS) for a period of three years.

Dr. Bhagavan’s appointment marks a break from tradition and the first appointment of the principal of a private medical college as V-C of RGUHS.

Earlier, the screening committee headed by Prof. M. Ramachandra Gowda had shortlisted and recommended the names of three people, including Dr. Bhagavan B.C., Dr. Ravikumar B.C., Principal of Hassan Institute of Medical Sciences, and Dr. Nalini G.K., Professor and Head of the Department of Pharmacology of Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Medical College and Research Institute.

More than 30 people, including principals of government and private medical colleges, officials of the Medical Education Department, and directors of hospitals had applied for the V-C’s post.

Prominent personalities in the field of medical education had expressed reservations over the appointment of the principal from a private medical college as V-C of RGUHS.
