No epic has permeated “Bharatiya society” as Ramayana did. Kambar, “who remains Bharat Nayakam”, made it accessible to the common people in a lucid and lively way, said Tamil Nadu Governor R.N. Ravi on Wednesday.
Releasing the book ‘Kamba Ramayana – A Study by the late V.V.S. Aiyar at Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan in Chennai, Mr. Ravi said “Our civilisation originated from the Vedas. The Rig Veda is 7,000 years old. Vedas sowed the seeds of Bharat Rashtra. Rishis revealed their divine wisdom that we are part of one family and the entire creation is harmonious.”
According to him, Ramayana tells us about every aspect of life, including how one should deal if met with adverse circumstances. “Every aspect of life that one can conceive of is there in Ramayana….Today Shri Rama is present all over the country,” Mr Ravi said.
“When his birthplace was desecrated 500 years ago by an invader, the people from all over the country remained agitated and concerned. We also saw the whole country remain euphoric in January 2024, when Ram temple was inaugurated,” he added.
Dr. Nalli Kuppuswami Chetti, vice-chairman Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Chennai Kendra; Justice S. Jagadeesan, former Judge of Madras High Court; Sudha Seshayyan, director, Sastra Deemed University; and Priya Ramachandran, committee member, Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Chennai Kendra, were among the participants.
