An irate man dirobed a worker inside the running bus and walked away with his lungi at Melakottai bus stop near Tirumangalam on Friday.
The police said that the victim, M. Rajkumar, 33, of Kallanai, was travelling back home after work in a bus proceeding from Tirumangalam to Kallanai.
When he found a man, identified as K. Jeyaraj, 26, of Melakottai abusing an elderly man in the bus, Rajkumar questioned him for his inappropriate behaviour.
Jeyaraj started to abuse the worker and suddenly pulled his lungi.
Later, he started to walk on the road with the snatched lungi when the bus stopped at Melakottai bus stop.
The victim had to walk behind him pleading to give back the lungi.
Jeyaraj then assaulted him and pushed him down on the ground. He later took a bottle lying on the ground and hit it on Rajkumar’s head causing bleeding injuries.
The victim was rushed to the Government hospital in Tirumangalam.
Based on his complaint, the Tirumangalam Taluk police arrested Jeyaraj and sent him to judicial custody for assault and dishonouring the worker.
