Inquiry on into alleged kidney sale in Namakkal: Minister

Health Minister Ma. Subramanian on Friday said that an inquiry was in progress into the alleged kidney sale in Namakkal district and action will be taken based on the findings.

“A year ago, the then District Collector had acted against a similar complaint. It has resurfaced now. Inquiry is going on and once we know who were involved at the end of inquiry, we will initiate legal action against them,” he told reporters during the sidelines of an event to start new polyclinics in 25 urban primary health centres (PHC) across the State.

Tamil Nadu tops in organ donation and a lot of awareness has been created on organ donations, he added.

Already, 108 polyclinics were operational in the State. These facilities functioned from 4.30 p.m. to 8.30 p.m. and consisted of general medicine, paediatrics, obstetrics and gynaecology, dermatology, ophthalmology, dental, psychiatry, and physiotherapy services.

The Minister laid the foundation stone to construct buildings in 14 places in Tiruvallur district at a cost of ₹11.85 crore. This included health sub centres, PHCs and nurses quarters.
