Nayanta, a private university, established in Pune, is reaching out to schools and non-government organisations in Tamil Nadu.
Chief executive officer of Nayanta Education Foundation, said the university will admit 100 students in the first year of their multidisciplinary 4-year undergraduate residential programmes. The admission process began in February. Candidates will write an aptitude test to assess their proficiency in language and mathematics. There will be a personal interview prior to admission.
Students will undergo 16 months of foundation programme with input in cultural and technology literacy. After each year the students will have short internships, including in non-government, social and corporate sector. In the final year they will undertake a long internship.
Ramesh Mangaleswaran, founding member of the Foundation, said deserving students will be provided scholarship. D. Parthasarathy, a faculty member at the university, said the university would start centres of excellence integrated with teaching programmes.
The curriculum is designed in consonance with the National Education Policy, Mr. Banerjee said. Nayanta University has been established under the Maharashtra State Private University Act and is backed by a group of industrialists. The university has partnered with Confederation of Indian Industry for internships and training. Classes begin in August.
