A second-year student of the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi was found dead under mysterious circumstances inside his hostel room on Wednesday, police said.

A preliminary investigation revealed that the student was last seen two days ago during dinner. After his prolonged absence, fellow hostel residents informed campus security, who then alerted the police.

The matter came to light when the students informed after the deceased, a Biomechanical Engineering student from Chandigarh, didn’t respond to the door knocks of his hostel room, which was locked from the inside.

A team of police and Delhi Fire Service officials rushed to the spot only to find the student lying unconscious on the bed.

“The body of the second-year undergraduate student pursuing Biomechanical Engineering had no visible injury marks, though vomit was found on the floor near the bed which could be due to medical complications,” said an official.

Doctors, who examined him at the scene, declared him dead.

A forensic team has examined the room and collected evidence. The body has been sent to Safdarjung Hospital for an autopsy to determine the exact cause of the death, police said.
