Heavy rainfall across Hyderabad and its outskirts throughout the night until Wednesday (July 23, 2025) morning led to heavy traffic congestion at several major junctions and arterial roads, leaving commuters stranded during the rush hour.
Traffic jams in Cyberabad
In the Cyberabad Police Commissionerate, which encompasses the city’s IT corridor, key routes connecting Kukatpally, Madhapur and Hitec City witnessed prolonged traffic jams. Officials attributed the bottlenecks to an increase in the number of four-wheelers on the road, as many commuters opted for private vehicles in view of the rain.
“Due to rains, all the citizens are travelling in four-wheelers, leading to higher vehicular traffic. The roads leading to Hitec City have been experiencing heavy traffic since morning,” said an official from the Cyberabad Traffic Control Room.
Hyderabad
Elsewhere in the city, high traffic volumes was observed in the Secunderabad area, while movement was sluggish in areas including Malakpet Metro Station, Yashoda Hospital, Nalgonda X Road, the road under bridge (RUB) towards Chaderghat Rotary, and Chaderghat X Road.
Adding to the congestion were multiple vehicle breakdowns reported across the city, including one at Pipeline Road, which further hampered the flow of traffic. Additional personnel were deployed on the ground in several areas to help manage the situation and ease the snarls, while drainage clearance was carried out in areas like Madhapur and Aramghar to ease waterlogging.
WFH advisory for July 23
As the India Meteorological Department has forecast more rain, the Cyberabad traffic police issued an advisory recommending companies in the area to consider allowing employees to work from home on Wednesday (July 23, 2025) to help reduce traffic load and ensure that emergency services remain unhindered. The advisory noted the potential for heavy rain and urged organisations to prioritise safety, productivity, and public convenience.
Traffic authorities have asked commuters to plan their journeys accordingly and avoid travel during peak rainfall hours unless necessary.
