Telangana Government has issued orders approving Hyderabad Metro Rail (HMR) Phase II-B for three corridors for a length of 86.1 km to be undertaken by the Hyderabad Airport Metro Limited (HAML) as a 50:50 joint venture (JV) with the Central Government at an estimated cost of ₹19,579 crore.

This is for Corridor IX – Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) to Future City (Skills University) 39.6 km; Corridor X – JBS to Medchal 24.5 km and Corridor XI – JBS to Shamirpet 22 km as per the proposals submitted by the HAML managing director N.V.S. Reddy.
Funding pattern
Telangana government’s share will be ₹5,874 crore (30%), Centre’s ₹3,254 crore (18%), loan component ₹9,398 crore (48%) from JICA, ADB, NDB, etc., and the PPP – public, private partnership component will be ₹783 crore (4%), as per norms for the funding pattern for the estimated cost.
The HAML MD was asked to take further action. The government order (G.O.) has also pointed out that the government had earlier approved HMR Phase II-A covering five corridors of 76.4 km at an estimated cost of ₹24,269 crore and sent the proposal to the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) as this too has been proposed as a Joint Venture with the Centre.
₹22,000 crore for Phase I
Stating that metro rail is an important instrument in reducing traffic congestion and pollution levels in Hyderabad city, the order said HMR Phase I covering three corridors of 69.2 km was built and commissioned at an estimated cost of ₹22,000 crore. It is the world’s largest metro rail project in the PPP mode.
₹125 crore for Old City works
In a separate G.O., Municipal Administration & Urban Development (MA &UD) secretary K. Illambarthi has ordered the release of ₹125 crore for the ongoing road expansion works between the 7.5-kilometre stretch from M.G. Bus Station (MGBS) to Chandrayanagutta as part of the proposed Phase-II Metro Rail line expansion project. A provision of ₹500 crore has been made in this year’s budget for the works. About 311 properties were acquired and ₹283 crore has been disbursed as compensation to the owners in the stretch.
