Panic gripped the Police Officers’ Mess in Masab Tank, Hyderabad on Monday (June 10) after a service rifle misfired while being cleaned by a constable.
According to Banjara Hills assistant commissioner of police (ACP) S. Venkat Reddy, the constable, identified as Vinod, was on security duty at the mess and was cleaning his weapon when it accidentally discharged. No injuries were reported.
The ACP said that no formal complaint was lodged. Departmental action was initiated against Vinod, and he has since been suspended from duty.
