History-sheeter shot by police in Karur district

A 30-year-old history-sheeter was shot in the leg after he allegedly attempted to attack a police team in Karur district in the late hours on Wednesday (June 18, 2025) when they went to arrest him in connection with an attempt to murder case.

The injured history sheeter, Tamilalagan, was admitted to the Government Medical College Hospital in Karur. He was involved in various cases in Karur and Pudukottai district including attempt to murder, said police sources.

Earlier on Tuesday, Tamilalagan and three of his associates allegedly attacked a man named Malayalam in Karur town with wooden logs, following a quarrel with him in the late hours. An injured Malayalam was admitted to the Government Medical College Hospital in Karur.

Acting on a complaint, the Karur Town police registered an attempt to murder case against Tamilalagan and three of his associates on Wednesday. While the police arrested three of his associates on the same day, the history-sheeter went absconding.

Acting on information that Tamilalagan was at Arikkarampalyam near Karur town, a team led by the Karur Town police station Inspector G. Manivannan went to the spot to arrest him. Tamilalagan allegedly attempted to attack the team with a sickle after threatening them.

In an act of self defence, the Inspector using his service pistol and opened one round of fire on the back side of Tamilalagan’s right knee and was secured, the police said.
