The district administration on Saturday (June 14) imposed a temporary ban on all quarrying and mining activities in Kozhikode district following the latest weather update from the India Meteorological Department (IMD), which placed north Kerala districts on red alert for extremely heavy rainfall.
In an official communication, District Collector Snehil Kumar Singh, who also serves as the chairman of the District Disaster Management Authority, informed that the ban would also apply to sand mining and well-digging activities. He added that the entry of tourists to various water tourism destinations would be restricted as part of safety measures.
Stadium Junction in the heart of Kozhikode city remains completely flooded after heavy rain on Friday night, making travel on Ram Mohan Road and Rajaji Road difficult.

With the district experiencing heavy rainfall on Saturday, Revenue department officials urged the public to avoid late-night travel to landslide-prone upland areas. They said helplines at Taluk control rooms remain active to respond promptly to any emergencies
“Though a two-storey old building collapsed in Kozhikode city on Saturday, no one sustained injuries in the incident. Rescue squads reached the spot on time to offer support,” said a senior Revenue department official. He said that the building had remained closed for over four years.
