The Delhi High Court has quashed Delhi University’s (DU) decision to put on hold the appointment of candidates selected for non-teaching posts in 2023, terming it a classic case of “scant regard for fairness”.
The petitioners had applied for various non-teaching posts at the university after an advertisement was issued in 2021. On August 18, 2023, DU published a list of selected canddiates and a week later on August 25, it halted the selection process.
“Some of the petitioners had resigned from their earlier jobs when offer letters were received and many have become overage for appearing in other exams,” said Justice Jyoti Singh in an order passed on May 30, adding that the university must “introspect” over its “arbitrary and illegal” actions.
The court also directed the university to complete the remaining formalities and take the selection process to its logical end.
