GCC to hold zone-wise town vending committee elections

The Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) has decided to conduct elections from June 16 to 26 to constitute a town vending committee in each zone, to regulate street vending. According to a press release, at a meeting on June 13, Corporation Commissioner J. Kumaragurubaran said efforts would be taken to ensure free and fair elections from June 16 — the date of filing of nomination — to June 27, the date of counting of votes. Basic facilities will be arranged at polling and counting centres. Ramps and wheelchairs will be available for persons with disabilities. Each polling station will have a help desk.
