The Greater Chennai Corporation distributed new uniforms to conservancy workers in Tondiarpet, Royapuram, Thiru.Vi.Ka. Nagar and parts of Ambattur Zones, Commissioner J. Kumaragurubaran said.
According to an official, around 9,000 employees of the Public Health Department — both permanent and contract staff under the National Urban Livelihoods Mission — will each receive four sets of uniforms.
The uniforms, that costs approximately ₹950 each, is being supplied by Co-optex. The fabric is breathable and includes improved reflective bands compared to previous uniforms, to enhance the workers’ visibility when they clean roads at night, to motorists. The kit also includes a raincoat and masks.
