A five-year-old boy suffered a head injury after a tile from the roof of the pre-primary school in Pejawara village, near Jokatte, fell on him on Monday.
The injured boy, Sonit, was among the 16 kindergarten students in the hall of the Shri Mukhyaprana Pre-Primary School, near the ‘Moola’ mutt of the Udupi Pejawar Mutt.
According to sources, as class was in session, a strong wind caused the tile to slip from the roof. Soon after the incident, the teacher moved Sonit and the 15 other students out of the hall, and the roof of the hall had totally collapsed around noon.
Deputy Director of Public Instruction Govind Madivala said Sonit sustained a skull fracture and was getting treated in the intensive care unit of a private hospital near St. Agnes College and was out of danger.
Mr. Madivala stated that the school was an aided primary school that had closed a few years ago. Local people came together to run a pre-primary school independently. The government did not recognise this pre-primary school. The donors had recently repaired the school’s tiled roof, he said.
