A 40-year-old fisherman identified as Ibrahim Shah of Mandapam is reported missing while he had ventured into the sea on Tuesday (June 17, 2025) night.

According to fisheries department officials on Thursday, four fishermen from Mandapam identified as Anees (30), Madavan (28), Pareedu (28) and Ibrahim Shah (40) had gone for fishing in a mechanised vessel owned by Sarfudeen.

It is said that the four had not taken the mandatory token from the authorities from the jetty before setting into the sea.

On Wednesday night, the vessel is said to have developed a snag and started sinking. When all the four fishermen raised an alarm for help, other fishermen, who were returning to the shore, rescued three among them and could not locate Ibrahim Shah.

On reaching the shore, the Marine Police authorities were informed about the incident following which a hunt was on to trace the missing fisherman. Further investigation is on.
