Fire and Rescue Services station to come up at Panjapur

A Fire and Rescue Services station will come up at Panjapur on Tiruchi-Madurai Highway, where the Tiruchi Corporation is building the Integrated Bus Terminus (IBT), which is at an advanced stage of completion.

The civic body, which has about 575 acres of land at Panjapur, has allotted 25 cents for establishing the fire station. The process of handing over the site to the Tamil Nadu Fire and Rescue Services has already been started.

A senior official of the Tamil Nadu Fire and Rescue Services told The Hindu that it was expected that the Corporation would formally hand over the site soon. Once it received the site allocation order, a proposal would be sent to the State government to build a fire station at Panjapur.

It would have facilities for stationing a fire engine along with necessary infrastructure. With the establishment of integrated bus terminus and allied infrastructure, Panjapur was set to become a fast-developing locality. A large number of vehicles and passengers were expected to use the bus terminus. Hence, the Fire and Rescue Services facility was important at Panjapur.

The official said that it would not only serve Panjapur but also serve other areas around it. The estimate of the station and other facilities would be known after the draft of the Detailed Project Report. The Tamil Nadu Police Housing Corporation Ltd. would build the station.

The Corporation has allotted a site for establishing a police station at Panjapur and the the police had forwarded a proposal to the State government to sanction the police station. The plan is to have two Inspectors of Police, a few Sub Inspectors and other police personnel of other ranks manning the station.
