Employee of private firm arrested for embezzling ₹21 lakh in Chennai

The Royapettah police have arrested a 40-year-old man for allegedly embezzling over ₹21 lakh from the company where he was employed.

He was arrested by the police following a complaint from the manager Selvakumar, 61, a lift manufacturing firm. The complainant alleged that Nithyanandam, 40, of Varadharajapuram in Ambattur had collected ₹21.6 lakh from eight customers. But he kept the money instead of crediting it into the company’s account. When the manager questioned him in this regard, he gave back ₹50,000 before going into hiding.

After investigating, the police arrested Nithyanandam. He was addicted to online gambling and spent the money collected there, the police said.
