The Delhi government has directed District Magistrates (DMs) to identify and fix 71 waterlogging-prone spots in their areas that are not under the jurisdiction of any government agency. In 2023, the Public Works Department (PWD) had identified 308 such points in the city, which have risen to 410 this year, as per traffic police data.
Of these 410 spots, over 300 fall under the jurisdiction of the PWD while various civic agencies are responsible for a few others, except 71 that are not covered by any department.
As no agency had expressed willingness to take responsibility for fixing the remaining spots, the DMs have been tasked with coordinating with the Delhi government and taking remedial measures. The official said that the DMs have also been asked to submit a report on the visits and work progress within the next three days to the PWD. Various parts of the city were waterlogged following pre-monsoon showers on Tuesday.
