DJB facing financial crisis, dues worth ₹1.42 lakh cr.: Minister

The Delhi Jal Board (DJB) is facing an unprecedented financial crisis, with pending water bills amounting to ₹1.42 lakh crore, said Water Minister Parvesh Sahib Singh on Saturday.

“We have identified that the commercial category has the highest dues of ₹66,000 crore, followed by the government category with ₹61,000 crore, and the domestic category with ₹15,000 crore in dues,” said the Minister.

Mr. Singh said the government is planning to waive the late payment surcharge, but the exact amount or percentage is yet to be decided. “The plan is to collect over ₹6,000 crore through waivers,” he said.

The DJB also has a debt of over ₹70,000 crore, including interest on loans. The Minister said the Delhi government has approached the Centre for assistance in recovering dues from various government establishments. “We urgently need funds to execute several projects like Yamuna cleaning,” he said.
