Dindigul Collector S. Saravanan on Saturday inspected the cleanliness drive in areas under the Corporation limits. Areas where volume of garbage generated were considerably high were identified and steps were initiated for proper waste disposal.
Collector Saravanan inspected the cleanliness drive in several areas including Corporation road, Police quarters, Mengles road, R.M. Colony, M.V.M. College, Palani Road, Begumpur and other places.
A total of 51 places including Pillaiyarpalayam, Joseph Colony, Vivekananda Nagar, Aarthi Theatre Road, Gopal Nagar in Corporation limits were identified as places where the volume of garbage generated was considerably high. Action was initiated to remove the garbage in these places through the solid waste management project.
The Collector instructed the Corporation officials to remove garbage, dried plants and leaves from the roadsides for a distance of 3 km from Corporation Road, Rajendra Theatre and West Police Station.
The Corporation officials were also instructed to clean the drainage channels on Mengles Road, R. M. Colony, M.V.M. College, Palani Road and Begumpur. Similar instructions were given to clean the dust on the roads using sweeping machines, particularly on Palani Road and Vedasandur road.
Later, the Collector inspected the construction of a drinking water tank with a capacity of about 10 lakh litres in R. M. Colony which is being constructed at an estimated cost of ₹9.63 crore. He also inspected the maintenance work being carried out at the park in R.M. Colony and the construction of a roundabout near M.V.M. College. Dindigul Corporation Commissioner M. Senthil Murugan and other officials were present during the inspection of the cleanliness drive.
