Union Minister of State and Gurgaon Lok Sabha MP Rao Inderjit Singh, a prominent Ahirwal leader, on Sunday said that the region’s contribution in forming the BJP government in Haryana thrice should not be “ignored” and their demands be fulfilled.

He was speaking at Chief Minister Nayab Saini’s event to inaugurate and lay foundation stones of various projects in Rewari.

Mr. Singh said people from several parts of Rewari and Gurgaon had come to the event to say that their contribution in BJP’s win should not be ignored. “Rewari is one of the few districts which has ensured the victory of all the BJP candidates. We hope the demands made from this stage would be fulfilled,” said Mr. Singh.

Without naming anyone, Mr. Singh that Kosli waited for years but none of the Chief Ministers came to this region.

Mr. Singh had quit Congress and joined the BJP before the Lok Sabha election in 2014 amid differences with then Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda for allegedly ignoring south Haryana. Being in the BJP, he has never made secret of his aspirations to be the Chief Minister and had staked claim to the coveted post before the election last year saying that Ahirwal belt — the Gurgaon-Rewari-Mahendragarh region — had contributed significantly to the BJP winning the polls in Haryana in 2014 and 2019 but had not got its due.

Demanding a flyover for a better connectivity to the upcoming All-India Institute of Medical Sciences in Rewari, Mr. Singh also raised concern over effluents from neighbouring Rajasthan flowing into Rewari.

Mr. Singh said people, after Gurugram, preferred Rewari for business and work and the district was the only region close to Delhi with the potential to grow in the next decade. He, however, cautioned that Gurugram had not developed in the right way and he did not want this mistake to be repeated in Rewari. “The land in Gurugram was cut and sold like a butcher. Even after spending crores, the roads in Gurugram are water-logged every monsoon. It is not the fault of our government, but previous governments,” said Mr. Singh.
