Delta farmers oppose cap on paddy procurement

The Tamil Nadu Cauvery Farmers Protection Association has resented the cap on number of paddy bags to be procured from individual farmers.

Association secretary Sundara Vimalanathan said that this season (summer crop season 2025), the State government has laid a new condition that only 60 bags of paddy should be procured from a farmer.

Urging the State government to withdraw this rule, he urged the Tamil Nadu Civil Supplies Corporation to ensure the availability of gunny bags in adequate numbers at the direct purchase centres as farmers were made to wait citing non-availability of gunny bags.

He demanded timely movement of paddy to the godowns in order to save the procured paddy from getting drenched in the unexpected downpours or affected due to exposure to the vagaries of nature.
