Daily labourer electrocuted to death in Chennai


A 37-year-old man was electrocuted when he touched a live wire installed in the streetlight on Greams Road in Chennai on Saturday (June 7, 2025). 

Police said M. Chandru was a daily labourer residing in the slum tenement in Greams Road in Thousand Lights along with his daughter and mother. Chandru had consumed liquor on Saturday night and was returning home walking. While he was crossing Greams Road by climbing the concrete median, he touched a loosely hanging wire of the streetlight fixed in the median and was electrocuted. 

The locals took him to the Royapettah Government Hospital in an auto but he died on the way. The body has been kept at the hospital mortuary for autopsy. Teynampet police have filed a case and are investigating.
