The Coimbatore Corporation has finalised tenders for construction of two bus stands on either side of the Ukkadam flyover at a cost of ₹21.55 crore.

The bus stands will come up on a land next to Lakshmi Narashimar Temple on the Selvapuram bypass road on one side and on the other side next to the Ukkadam police station, where the previous bus stand existed. The bus stand on Selvapuram bypass road will be largely for town buses and the bus stand to come up next to Ukkadam police station will be for moffusil buses.

The tenders were called for and there were three bids two from construction firms from Erode and one from Namakkal. The Corporation has chosen the Namakkal builder.

The bus stand proposal has obtained the clearance from the Commissioner of Municipal Administration and from the Chief Engineer for the tenders that were called for in June. The bus stands will also facilitate the construction of metro rail project. It will have foot overbridges for the metro rail passengers to reach these two bus stands.

Work order is ready for the Namakkal firm and the same would be given after obtaining the approval of the council, sources in the civic body said.
